Stoneleigh is traditionally the season opener for Main
F Register events and 2008 was no exception. However this year we did
push the boat out a bit with a themed stand based on "Trophies"
featuring lots of chequred flag bunting , flags, chain link fencing,
display boards on Trophy 160's and MG Trophy race cars plus two Trophy
160 cars and Japan Cup racing car...oh and some inflatable trophies and
real trophies dotted about as well as the stall selling our full range
of regalia. That was not all as we also featured Andy Capy
demonstrating how his "Lo Larm" invention worked and holding a raffle
with a Lo Larm system as the prize. Plenty of interest in that and well
done to Brian Dingdale who was the eventual winner. Not
surprisingly we hardly had time to draw breath working on the stand
itself as there always seemed to be a crowd around us which was great to
see. Fantastic to catch up with some of the old faces and plenty of new
faces as well to introduce to the club. We did get a little time to
wander around the show though and spotted the Essex Roadsters admiring
Kierans new red oxford leather seats he had just brought from Mike Satur.
Good to see the MGF Centre back at the show as well and they seemed to
be doing well, also Brown & Gammons and Rimmer Bros were amongst the
stall holders so there was plenty of interest for the MGFan to browse.
Lots of other stalls selling general bric a brac and rusty old bits for
older MGs as well as tools, cleaning materials, toys, brochures , old
radios and even fudge ! The cars for sale section also featured some
nice cars including an immaculate solar red Trophy 160 but sadly our own
Vice Chairman Andy Phillips didn't manage to sell his ZT 260 ...so if
anyone is interested you can still contact the F register.
Spotted a rear bumper assembly for an N reg F amongst the MGB wings on
one stall and there were one or two other Fs spotted about on other club
stands looking very shiny. The MGOC stall featured a bright yellow SV
and the MGCC a selection of racing MGs. Out in the cow sheds was the
usual selection of MGs of all types parking under cover making a nice
display to wander around and get inspiration for the next modification
to your own F/TF. A good start to the year.
Thanks to Steve Foster, Dave Alexander and Ralph Gadsby for the loan of
the cars but we were sad to hear that Ralph was involved in an accident
on the way back home from the show resulting in the Japan Car being
damaged on it's trailer. Luckily neither Jim or Ralph were hurt
and the front of the F should be repairable. Words and Pics Tim Morris |
