I recently came across two new adverts to share with everyone, both from dealers. One is from an unknown date, and features Clanfield Lawrence dealers, the other from 1953 features University Motors.

Please welcome Ray Jacka and YT 3741 to Ys on Parade. Ray has spent 10 years restoring the car and is considering selling it. Ray is not on e-mail and any interested parties are asked to contact Ray through the good offices of Alf Luckman our Australasia Representative. Also, the MG Car Club have confirmed the dates for the 55th Silverstone International Meeting as being the 22 - 24 July 2005: see the Events page for more details.

Details are now available on the 8th Annual UK 2005 MG Car Club Y Type Register Spring Run. An application form can be downloaded here or from the Events page. The run will be based at Sudeley Castle near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. The event will run will include a run around the Costwolds commencing at 11.30 a.m. to return by 3.00 p.m.. This should take no more than a couple of hours which will allow for lunch stops. At 3.30p.m. the awarding of the NTG cup (for YA’s and YT’s) and the Bill Atkinson cup (for YB’s) will be made following a self-judging concours. Some may choose to visit the gardens and the castle; details will be included with the application form. All Y Type owners are welcome – please see if we can make more than 50 Y’s this year!

Also on 26 June Neil Cairns will be organizing a Ys in Steam day at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway. Anyone interested in narrow gauge railways, steam and diesel, the Leighton Buzzard Railway is running a classic car rally on Sunday 26th June 2005. The railway gets out all its steam engines and running diesel units, (it has the largest collection of 2ft gauge engines in the UK) and you get a free ride on the 3.7 mile line. There is a cafe, shop, engine shed, and last year 120 cars took part. For more contact Neil with your details and he will forward entry forms when they are ready. Willem Van der Veer sent me a copy of a page from The Autocar 5 May 1950 recently which included a short section on Y Type driving. I have copied this out below:

How certain well-loved cars assume a personality! Years ago, the late Cecil Kimber lent me a 1 1/2-litre M.G. "to play around with" for a week or two (you could do it in those days), and since then I have followed the M.G. range with maternal interest. The 1 1/4-litre met with my full approval and the other night I renewed acquaintance with it.
The experience was like going home after a long absence. I settled in the seat, groped unfamiliarly for the light switch, found it and immediately the rest of the knobs became instinctive. There was a moment's hesitation when I wanted reverse; left or right? Memory plumped for right and sure enough it was. Before many miles were gone the little saloon was zipping round the bends in the well-remembered fashion and a few more years had been passed in The Scribe's backward progress to youth again. I always feel that the 1 1/4-litre is a young car. There is an elasticity about its progress along the road that humans lose as the joint stiffen.

So,1,000 days, and, as a special treat, a new screensaver of MG YTs for you to download and use, based mainly on the October 1948 brochure, and the first Technical Advice question and answer of the new year. Also, for your enjoyment, we look back twelve years, to 1993 with a reprinted article from MG Enthusiast showing that even then, the MG Car Club Y Type Register organised some pretty spectacular tours with the 1992 French Tour.

There appears to be no end of things you can do with a Y Type at Christmas time, under Artists Impressions is another Christmas card - from Ted Gardner this time.

Yes we have been on-line, enjoying and sharing these wonderful cars with the world for 999 days already - your support and participation has enabled the site to grow from the first few tentative pages originally placed, to a most amazing and diverse site: who would have thought that we would have found so much amazing material, and so many owners willing to share their beautiful cars with us in all states of restoration. With your continued participation we continue to look forward to what 2005 will bring!

You will find your calendar for 2005 on the side panel of this page, and we will try to bring you a rich variety of other things over the coming months for you to enjoy and share in. Always remember, this is your site and your input to its vitality and vibrancy is paramount to us, and your fellow Y owners. So, if you know a Y which is not currently on the site - get with the owner and send in a photograph and all the details on the Submit your "Y" to Ys on Parade page. If you cannot send a digital picture, you can always email the webmaster for his "snail mail" address and send a normal photograph. Also, if you have a technical query, you can ask the Technobods - Neil Cairns and David Pelham Technical Advice page, or share your Hints and Tips with us too. Whatever you have, Y Type, you can always send it in - we will try to find somewhere for it for you and others to enjoy.
