An excellent site with great resources...very impressed! I have fairly recently acquired YB 1023 and hope to have it on the road (and on the Y Register on this site) by the end of this year!? Since there are less than 10 known YBs in Australia I am having trouble finding spare wheel cover (YB specific) and bootlid (same for both) - any help would be appreciated, especially in Australia! Cheers Nick

An excellent website. Met Jerry Birkbeck recently and discussed the Y Type I have for sale. Hope it finds a suitable buyer who will give it TLC and finish it. Y Types are on of my favourites but like so many of us, I have too many projects in hand at present and it needs to be back in circulation and cherished.

I have recently acquired a MGY-open Tourer and very pleased to know that you have such a great club and support on the web. I will be registering my vehicle on the register and would love to know more of it's history. Regards, Naik

I was from 1978 to 1996 owner of Y/T/4963/EXR (bodynr)53244-901 (enginenr)XPAG/TR/14750. My YT and I existed in the southern part of the Netherlands. I got a lot of many good remembrance of this lovely car. Her name was Elisabeth. I was very surprised to see that my YT now (03-2007) lives in Luxemburg. My I ask the owner to contact me on my e-mail address for information.

(We are bound by the UK Data Protection Act and cannot divulge the addresses of owners without their consentWe  canforward your emails to the owner , and ask thm to contact you if they so wish, assuming of course that we have an email address - which we do not always have. Webmaster.)

What great memories your Y website brings back! I learned to drive (and passed my test first time in 1959) in a 1952 YB registration number YMG 22. Yes: many happy times were had with car - not to mention quite a few ditches around Reigate in which I ended up! I remember bombing up the M1 when it opened - quite a different experience in a modern car. I wonder if YMG 22 has survived despite the bumps and bruises I gave it?

(YMG 22 is unknown on the DVLA website Chris, so it is probably re-tyred by now to the motorways in the skies - no ditches up there! Webmaster.)

UMG 290 was delivered to my father in October 1950, on arriving home with it after picking it up from University Motors in Piccadilly, the exhaust system was ripped off when the car dipped entering the drive, a steep slope with a small metal plate sticking up as a stop for the gates, I learned to drive in it. My father was not happy with it from the first day, it was nothing like his 1940 coupe. He experienced a lot of engine trouble and in desperation drove back to Abingdon in the first few months and I believe a new engine was fitted, finally when the 12 months covenant was up (This was a legislative covenant imposed by the UK Government to allegedly prevent racketeering and black marketing in new cars after World War II by UK citizens ~ Webmaster.) he sold it. I believe the price when new was £751 and he sold it for £1,400, but was duped and never received full payment. It is fantastic to see the photographs on your web site and sent an email last night to David Pelham, received a reply at 11:18pm last and am hoping to hear from the owner Jack Murray. Our house number, at the time, was 290: coincidence or a case of personal plate?

I am not really an MG enthusiast,  but I do like classic car shows & steam engine rallies,  and looking at the various old models I started to think about UMG 290,  and found via the DVLA site that it was still on the road,  (surprised to see it is now white)  and so started the search.

How did I Like it?  Wow!  a boys dream,  17,  brand new car and Dad lets me drive it!  I loved it, however Dad said it did not compare with his previous model (I think that was the VA or WA, not sure,  he called it a fixed head coupe).   So whilst waiting for the 12 month covenant to expire he bought a 1948 Riley 1.5 litre  and I went on to drive that (he didn`t want to use the MG anymore in order to keep the mileage down).

Fantastic MG site ... very informative. I wish some of the other MG models had such a resource. Wonderful talking with you Paul! Keep up the good work. Cheers, Matt.

This is an excellent site and I feel a lot more confident now as I intend looking for an MG-Y in the near future: a car I have always admired from my youth. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Just browsing through your great site, constantly on the look out for details and information on the 'YT'. I have just begun restoration after it's 30 - 35 years of storage.

Probably one of the most helpful & informative sites I have visited.  I own three non MG cars of the Y-type's era & I've always looked upon the Y-type as a potential future purchase.  The information available is most helpful to a potential purchaser.

Good site. Have owned and well used my PA for 33 years. Am looking for a nice, running Y Type to buy, (sorry but not green as her in doors ain't fond of green).  Preferably sound and not in need of major work.

Excellent and informative site, it's good to see the Y Type fraternity keeping the flag flying. People who know that I was the chap behind 'Whyparts' often ask why I ceased trading, the answer is simple - I had a stroke (followed later with metal 'strap' fitted in one arm to stop wrist movement!). I still keep tabs on the classic car movement but regrettably am not in a position to actively follow my interests. Kind regards to all who remember me.

David

Pulls collar up and hat down, you ain't seen me right but I have a TD and I'm with the T register!  Brilliant site, very useful Tech Centre.  I 'spose the TD was based on the Y type wasn't it ?
