Comment: I'm a long standing member with my YA Y0368 appearing in the gallery. I also have a TD which was a basket case bought as a project for my son who has special needs. (This allows me to drive the car for him but it is his car). The TD appears in the TD gallery of the MGCC T register, TD chassis number 13384. As a family we decided that we would like to get rid of the YA and the TD and get either a YT or an older 4 seater MG convertible if we could get one in our price range. This would reduce our expenses, give us a fun convertible and still let us go out together as a family. A free advert in the members classified adverts got the ball rolling. We haven't succeeded yet but we were put in touch with a couple of owners wanting to sell. Paul Barrow, Jack Murray and Bob Simpson were quickly in touch doing everything in their power to help. One YT advertised in the members pages is a good, thorough rebuild that is a little more than I want to pay, bearing in mind the work still to do and outstanding hood work plus collection costs, MOT and registration still to be dealt with. The seller is being more than fair to me and must think me a pain in the bum. I don't blame him for not accepting my price - in his position I wouldn't either! I have to ring him next week with a decision after ruminating over the weekend. This long ramble is intended to let readers know what a great bunch of people every one involved with this site has been within my experience. No I haven't got the car I want yet but that is my fault, certainly not for lack of help and assistance from every one connected with mgytypes.org. I have been able to get answers to my queries almost immediately from somewhere in the web site. This is a first rate organisation which thoroughly deserves the success that it enjoys. Comment: Great Website. I owned a 1950 Y as a youngster in Hampshire, England, in the late sixties. Drove the thing around those wonderful twisting country lanes at breakneck speed - usually from pub to pub. It didn't have a good foot breaking system, the master cylinder was always giving me trouble - I must have bled those breaks a hundred times. I used the handbrake when needed and very quickly learnt to drive effectively using the gears. It was a fun car to drive - used more oil than petrol. I bought it from a farmer in Andover for 30 pounds sterling - fell in love with it at first sight as the barn door opened. I'm ashamed to say I traded her in for a red Mini - more trendy in the sixties, I guess. Wish I had kept her - those leather seats, wood dash and sunshine roof were pure luxury. Didn't get that in the Mini! I envy all those that have one - I've always had fond memories for her.

Comment: My wife and I spotted an MG Y type parked in a car park in Anglesey last week end. We were recalling our courting days back in 1967 when I owned one when the owner Neil Cairns introduced himself. Almost half an hour later we were still discussing the advanced merits of a car far ahead of it's time. Adjustable steering, independent front suspension, semi bucket leather seats, hydraulic: jacks on all four corners, sun roof, the list goes on. My thanks to Neil for time, I'm now in the market for one!

Comment: Provides a fantastic wealth of information about a car which I was so lucky as to have owned from 1960 to 1964. I remember the registration was RML 703, a black 1947 Y model with inbuilt jack-system. Just that would knock any modern car for six!!! Keep 'em rolling! From an "Old Hand" who even today has a bad conscience of parting with the best car he ever owned. It's probably long gone to the happy country lanes of Heaven. Most sincerely, Keith Price.

Comment: I was the proud owner of a 1950 MG 'Y' type, registered number PY657 from 1954 to 1960. It was a good car for its time although somewhat under powered although fitting twin S.U. carbies helped. It handled reasonably well although the terrible front shockers were useless and needed frequent replacement or frequent topping up with the highest viscocity gear oil I could find - at that time being an oil company technologist. The faulty shocks cost me my licence for 3 months in 1955 when I nearly ran a copper off the road negotiating (?) a fast sweeping bend on a country road! The hydraulic jacks were terrific and I wish I had them now. I remember the 'Y' type with considerable affection and wish I had one in my garage these days. In the time that I had her she went from a metallic brown finish (original) through two tone grey and finally BRG. Much time and effort was lavished on her - especially during my 3 months licence suspension. Since I sold the 'Y' type I have mainly had Holdens, my present being a V6 1996 Statesman, but will always have a soft spot in heart for the 'Y' type.

Comment: Words can not describe my pleasure at finding your site. It is by far one of the best designed sites I have seen and one of the most complete in information and easy to navigate. I am presently trying to complete the purchase of a 1952 MGTD for my wife and have fallen in love with the "Y" type as "the" proper auto for me. Comment: An excellent site. In a way I am trespassing as my MG is a TC! However, I have made use of your Technical Centre for your thoughts on my gearbox problem i.e. jumping out of third gear on overrun. After the T type rebuild seminar in March where they are stripping and re-assembling a TD/TF gearbox, if I find any further useful advice I will let you know; I am sure problems and remedies can be read across. Comment: I have a Y type in need of lots of TLC, particularly the body which is so bad that I am tempted to take it off and make an MG fun car looking something like a T type. I don't have the skill to repair the original body but could probably make an ash frame for a "sports body". Comment: I didn't know of the existence of this MG Y page until today. I'm very glad for it. I own a YA, 1948, last year the Y Type page at Safety Fast had a report about the Y. As at that time I was one of the people in charge at the "Oct�gono" a magazine from our club in Portugal (Maia MG Clube - affiliated member of MG Car Club) I've written two texts about the Y, one about the restoration and the other about the history of the model. As we don't have many Y Types in our country I've asked all the Y owners to send information about their cars (year, chassis plate no. engine no) to send to Y register.
