    Hi Mick!

Not quite sure what you seek as to "ventilated type" wheels/rims.

I believe the first 500 or so 1949 TD's were fitted with "solid" 5.50 X 15 inch wheels, identical to those fitted to all YB's.

After that, all TD/F's were fitted with the 5.50 X 15 inch "pierced" disc wheels we associate with these models.

Are these not readily available in GB? Obviously, their...

    Hi Dave.
Short answer is no, your car is at no real risk. Mostly because of the cooler.
Also I think there is very little volume returned via the "leak off" pipes (which are more usually called spillways) because they are only returning the excess from the injectors, although I am not very familiar with these specific engines.
Injectors are fundamentally pressure relief valves but v...

I don't know a lot about diesels, but I do know that my BMW-engined Rover diesel has leak-off pipes and a diesel cooler, which cools the fuel returning to the tank. I'm wondering if it's at risk?

Next question: Does diesel ‘go off' after a time?

“ So, is there a difference between a Consul Classic and a Consul Capri?”

The Classic is the 4-door saloon with the slopey rear window - a bit like an Anglia.

The Capri is the 2-door fastback coupe.

  • Greybeard 28 April 2024

Sorry to hijack the thread but I ought to add this.
Most of you who run diesels will have modern engines which are almost all common rail fuel systems. They have the advantage that 99% of them don't require a return line to tank but recycle the excess fuel from the injectors in the next injection cycle.
Older engines which have a traditional central HP injection pump supplying dumb injec...

Should have mentioned a shout out to Willie who called it right.
Biodiesel is a very big, new worry. My friend may have known a very wealthy man who wrote off the engine of a high end Mercedes Benz Gelandewagen which he ran on biodiesel (essentially recycled chip fat) without taking precautions against the bug.
Here endeth the Lesson. Be at peace, brothers and sisters. Amen.

  • Greybeard 28 April 2024

    Hi Guy.
Yes it's a microbial bug which affects certain blends of diesel fuels. For the most part, road-going vehicles should be relatively immune as road fuels are routinely dosed with biocidal additives, but MGO, (Marine Gas Oil) or red diesel formulas sold for agriculture and earthmovers are vulnerable as they rarely have these components.
The bug doesn't actually live in the diesel, ...

Call me a curmudgeon, but all these new cars (electric included) with 0-60 times well less than 10 seconds in my opinion are conducive to irresponsible driving. I'm already getting almost run off the streets with my small fleet of vintage British cars with less than 60 horsepower.

  • GuyW28 April 2024

Never heard of the diesel bug either. Is it bug, as in an animal life form that lives on diesel. Or is bug used in a descriptive sense or as an abbreviation for an expletive relating to something being a mild annoyance. My friend would like to know as he / they wondered if said bug could be used to clean up industrial oil spillages. How many of these bugs would have been needed for the Torry Canio...

I'm glad your friend made it! I wasn't aware of the diesel bug problem.
